 Commissions / Collaboration / Consultancy

I design and create both public and private bespoke commissions.  I also enjoy consulting and collaborating through sharing knowledge and skills, by developing professional relationships, and fostering growth within new experiences.

Rosewood Little Dix Bay Commission

Rosewood Little Dix Bay Resort, Virgin Gorda, B.V.I
August 2019

A commission piece of hand dyed woven and stitched linen. With grid design and fine thread detailing from my 'Linen & Black' Series.  This piece will be framed and hung within the Great Room of a beautiful Caribbean Resort. If only this commission had needed a sight visit!

'An eco-friendly resort ahead of its time, Rosewood Little Dix Bay has always featured the natural environment at the heart of its design. One of the first Caribbean resorts to promote sustainable luxury, the beachside retreat has welcomed guests to a world of undiluted tropical splendor for over half a century' (https://www.rosewoodhotels.com/en/little-dix-bay-virgin-gorda/overview/about).

Tate Modern Commission

Anni Albers
11 October 2018 - 27 January 2019

I have recently had the rewarding experience of working with the Tate Modern in relation to their retrospective exhibition of works by Weaver Anni Albers (1899-1994). This was the first major exhibition of her Textiles in the UK and what an inspiring exhibition it was.

I worked with the three exhibition curators, Ann Coxon, Briony Fer and Pryiesh Mistry, in two capacities;

  1. Woven Textiles Expertise. The loan and Installation of a Countermarch Loom displayed in the entrance to the Anni Albers Exhibition at Tate Modern Gallery London.
  2. A commission of a body of Hand Woven ‘handling’ samples displayed in the final room for the Anni Albers Exhibition Oct 2018-Jan 2019 Tate Modern.

This commission required an exploration of hand weaving through design, material and structure, inspired by but not to replicate the works of weaver Anni Albers.  I wanted these works to represent the professional abilities, skill and craftsmanship of contemporary hand weaving. As the accomplished works of Anni Albers in the exhibition could not be touched these new commissioned pieces were specifically to be handled by the public.

Since the commission I have been offered the opportunity of a 2 month Artist Residency at the Joseph & Anni Albers Foundation in Connecticut USA. I am looking forward to the experience.
